How each operation works

• Add / subtract — put both over a common denominator, then combine the numerators.
• Multiply — multiply the numerators and multiply the denominators.
• Divide — flip the second fraction and multiply.

Simplifying

The result is divided by the greatest common divisor of its numerator and denominator, so ⁶⁄₈ becomes ¾. A mixed number splits an improper fraction like ⁷⁄₃ into 2 ⅓.

Can I use negative fractions?

Yes — put the minus sign on the numerator. The calculator keeps the denominator positive and carries the sign through correctly.

Can it handle improper fractions and mixed numbers?

Yes. You can enter improper fractions like ⁷⁄₃, and the calculator shows the result both as an improper fraction and as a mixed number (2 ⅓), so you get whichever form you need.

What happens if I divide by zero?

A fraction with a zero denominator is undefined, and dividing by a zero-valued fraction is too. The calculator flags this rather than returning a wrong answer, so check that no denominator is left at zero.
