How your exact age is calculated

Your age in years is how many full years have passed since your birth date — and crucially, your birthday hasn’t added a year until the day arrives. This calculator works that out precisely by counting whole years, then whole months, then the leftover days, borrowing from the previous month when the day-of-month hasn’t been reached yet. That’s the same way you’d naturally say someone is “34 years, 2 months, and 9 days old.”

Age on any date, not just today

By default the second field is set to today, so you get your current age. These are useful for younger ages (parents often track a baby in weeks or months) and for milestone spotting — like noticing you’re about to hit 10,000 days old, which happens at roughly 27 years and 4 months.

Leap years and month lengths

Because the calculation counts real calendar dates, it automatically handles leap years and the fact that months range from 28 to 31 days. People born on February 29 are a special case: in non-leap years their “monthly” anniversary is generally treated as March 1, and this tool counts the completed months and days accordingly.

Does it count the day I was born?

Age counts completed time since birth, so on your birth date you are 0 days old, and you turn one day old the next day — matching how age is normally reckoned.
