How overtime and holiday pay work in the Philippines
Under the Labor Code and DOLE rules, work done beyond 8 hours, on a rest day, or on a holiday earns a premium — a multiple of your hourly rate. The exact multiplier depends on the type of day. This calculator applies the standard DOLE rates to your hours and shows the pay for the first 8 hours, the overtime hours, and any night differential.
The DOLE premium rates
These are the common multipliers of your hourly rate (first 8 hours / each overtime hour):
- Ordinary working day: 100% / 125% overtime
- Rest day or special non-working day: 130% / 169% overtime
- Special non-working day on a rest day: 150% / 195% overtime
- Regular holiday: 200% / 260% overtime
- Regular holiday on a rest day: 260% / 338% overtime
Overtime is any time past 8 hours, and it's paid at the higher overtime multiplier — which is why the calculator splits your hours automatically at the 8-hour mark.
Night differential
Work performed between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM earns an extra night-shift differential of at least 10% of the hourly rate for those hours. Enter your night-shift hours and the tool adds the 10% premium on top of the applicable day rate. (Where night-differential hours overlap with overtime, actual payroll systems may layer the premiums slightly differently — treat this as a close estimate.)
Getting your hourly rate
If you're paid daily, your hourly rate is the daily rate ÷ 8. If you're paid monthly, the common
approach is: (monthly × 12) ÷ (working days per year × 8). Many companies use a
factor of 261 or 313 working days depending on whether you're paid on rest days — check your
payslip or HR, since the divisor changes the hourly rate.
This is an estimate
These are the standard DOLE premium rates, but specific company policies, CBAs, the "double holiday" scenario, and exact night-differential layering can change the result. Use this to understand and check your pay, and confirm anything important with your HR department or DOLE.
FAQ
Do I get holiday pay if I don't work the holiday?
On a regular holiday, covered employees are generally entitled to 100% of their daily wage even if unworked. This calculator computes pay for hours actually worked; the no-work holiday pay rule is separate.
What counts as overtime in the Philippines?
Overtime is any work performed beyond the normal 8 hours in a day, and it's paid at a higher multiplier than the first 8 hours. The exact overtime rate depends on the day type, such as an ordinary day, rest day, or holiday. This is an estimate, so confirm specifics with your HR or DOLE.
How is the night differential applied?
Hours worked between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM earn at least an extra 10% on top of the applicable hourly rate. Where night hours overlap with overtime, payroll systems may layer the premiums in slightly different ways, so treat the figure here as a close estimate and verify with your employer.
What's the difference between a regular holiday and a special non-working day?
Regular holidays carry a higher premium, generally 200% of the daily wage for work performed, while special non-working days are paid at 130%. The day types are declared by the government each year, so check the official proclamation for the correct classification.
Is this calculator free, and is my data private?
Yes, it is completely free with no sign-up, and all calculations run in your browser so your salary details are never uploaded. It works on phones and desktops. The results are estimates based on standard DOLE rates, so verify important amounts with your HR department or DOLE.
