How the SSS retirement pension is calculated

The Social Security System (SSS) computes your monthly retirement pension as the highest of three formulas, based on two numbers: your Average Monthly Salary Credit (AMSC) and your Credited Years of Service (CYS). Whichever formula gives the largest result is the one used:

  • Formula 1: ₱300 + 20% of the AMSC + 2% of the AMSC for each credited year of service beyond 10.
  • Formula 2: 40% of the AMSC.
  • Formula 3 (minimum): ₱1,200 if you have 10–20 years of service, or ₱2,400 if you have 20 or more.

On top of the basic pension, SSS adds a ₱1,000 across-the-board increase, which this calculator includes in the monthly figure.

Who qualifies for a monthly pension

You need at least 120 monthly contributions (about 10 credited years) before the semester of retirement to receive a monthly pension. With fewer than 120 contributions, SSS pays a one-time lump-sum benefit instead — the total contributions plus interest. The earliest you can claim a pension is age 60 (optional retirement, if not working) or 65 (mandatory).

What AMSC to use

The AMSC is the average of your monthly salary credits — the income brackets your contributions were based on, not your raw salary. It's capped by the SSS maximum monthly salary credit, which has risen over time to ₱35,000. If you're unsure of your exact AMSC, estimate it from your recent salary credits; the pension scales directly with it, so a higher AMSC means a higher pension.

The 13th-month pension

SSS pensioners receive 13 payments a year — twelve monthly pensions plus a 13th-month pension every December. That's why this calculator shows the yearly total as the monthly pension multiplied by 13.

FAQ

Is this the exact amount I'll receive?

It's a close estimate using the official formulas. Your actual pension depends on your verified contribution record and AMSC on file with SSS, plus any dependent's pension for qualified children. Use your My.SSS account for the official figure.

Does each child add to the pension?

Yes — qualified dependent children (up to five, youngest first) can each receive a dependent's pension of 10% of the member's pension or ₱250, whichever is higher. This calculator shows the member's pension only.

Can I increase my future pension?

Yes. Paying contributions at a higher salary credit raises your AMSC, and contributing for more years raises your CYS — both increase the pension. Voluntary or self-employed members can choose to pay at a higher bracket.
