The formula

Needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w, where w is the final's weight as a decimal. Your current grade covers everything except the final, and the final fills in the rest.

• 0 or below — you've already locked in your target.
• Over 100% — the target isn't reachable on this final alone; the tool shows the highest grade you can still earn.

FAQ

How do I know the final's weight?

Check your syllabus — it lists each component's percentage of the final grade. If the final is "worth 30% of your grade," enter 30.

What is my "current grade" exactly?

It is your weighted average across everything graded so far, excluding the final. If your gradebook already shows an overall percentage that leaves out the final, that number is what you enter.

What if it says I need over 100%?

That means your target is no longer reachable from the final alone, because even a perfect final isn't enough. The tool then shows the highest grade you can still earn so you can set a realistic target.

Can I aim to just pass the course?

Yes — set your target to your school's passing grade, such as 60 or 70, and the calculator shows the minimum final score needed to clear it. If the result is zero or negative, you have already passed regardless of the final.

Is it free and private?
