The scale used

Grades follow the standard bands: 90–100 is an A, 80–89 a B, 70–79 a C, 60–69 a D, and below 60 an F, with plus and minus steps in between. Your school's exact cutoffs may differ slightly.

How do I figure my grade across several assignments?

How are letter grades with plus and minus assigned?

Within each ten-point band, the top of the range earns a plus and the bottom a minus — for example, an 88 is a B+ and an 81 a B−. Schools vary in exactly where those cutoffs fall, so check your syllabus if you're near a boundary.

What grade do I need on the final to pass?

Figure the points you still need to reach your target percentage, then divide by the points the final is worth. If different categories are weighted, use the weighted grade calculator, which lets you enter a target and see the score required.

Is a percentage the same as a GPA?

No. This tool gives a percentage and the matching letter grade for a single score, while a GPA averages letter grades across courses on a 4.0 scale. Convert each letter to its grade-point value first, then average those to get a GPA.
